South African solar research
Solar Adoption Research Map
Help map how rooftop solar has been adopted across South Africa. Explore privacy-safe aggregates and contribute your system so national benchmarks improve over time.
Dataset status: 1 research submission recorded so far. Exact residential addresses are never shown on the public map.
Public map points are coarsened · area stats require a minimum sample before publicationWhy this research exists
South Africa is one of the sunniest places on earth. By combining real homeowner entries with satellite roof data and municipal tariffs, we are building a picture of where systems have been installed, typical sizes and battery uptake, regional yield per kWp, and where affordable rollout may deliver the most value.
Privacy
- We never index an exact residential address on public SEO pages.
- Public map locations are rounded / coarsened.
- Area-level statistics only publish when sample size meets a minimum threshold (default 10).
- You can ask to withdraw research data by emailing hello@mysolarbuddy.co.za.
Methodology
Contributors confirm a roof location, optionally share install timing and system details, and we attach satellite production estimates plus local tariff context where available. Operational account data stays separate from public research fields.
